In Beminnen Huijer studies the ideology of sexual freedom. She studies the western view of sexual freedom, how we promote this view to other (non-western) countries, and questions whether we actually have gained more sexual freedom. How does ‘sexual freedom’, for instance, interact with the creation of more and more labels. People will tell you they identify with being queer, gay, hetero, cisgender, polyamorous, etcetera. But in all this labelling, and promotion of sexual freedom, do we still love? Shouldn’t we focus more on enjoying the pleasures of love and the other person, instead of needing to constantly label ourselves?

In Beminnen Huijer rereads the History of Sexuality from French philosopher Michel Foucault. She wonders how we can love without limiting ourselves with labels. Huijer advocates a new sexual revolution.
